Batteries with longer life coming soon.
Users of portable devices such as digital cameras are finding it more difficult than ever to consume batteries due to the added features of newer devices with extra features. Battery makers are rushing to meet the demand for batteries with a longer life.
A new type of battery should be available by April of next year that will be “all day batteries” created by Panasonic. They plan to increase the capacity by swapping cobaltate with a secret substance that is still undisclosed.
The new material allows the batteries to be discharged down to a lower voltage, enabling users to get more runtime from their devices. Designed to power laptops, cell phones and other mobile electronics, Panasonic’s first generation battery is scheduled to hit store shelves in April, says Kurt Kelty, director of the Panasonic Energy Solutions Lab.
Meantime, people can always buy heavy portable batteries for backup power, extra rechargeable batteries and extra chargers. And lug them around.
