Nikon Coolpix S500 digital camera

Coputeractive.co.uk has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix S500 digital camera.

Gavin Stoker writes: Reviewing the S500’s pictures on a computer, daylight images reveal a nice even handling of exposure, slightly cool yet naturalistic colours, and the level of sharpness you’d expect from a budget compact – meaning that it can be improved in the image- editing software
of your choice, but otherwise won’t disappoint.

Nikon Coolpix L5 digital camera

Imaging-resource has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix L5 digital camera. Dan Havlikwrites: If you’re an entry-level photographer happy to let your digital camera do all the work, the Nikon Coolpix L5 may be right for you. Packed with advanced features taken from Nikon’s higher-end P-series, the Nikon Coolpix L5 is a very sophisticated model at a very attractive sub-$300 price. (We’ve even seen it for as low as $200 at some online retailers.)
In addition to a long Nikkor-branded 5x optical (38-190mm lens on a 35mm camera) zoom lens, the Nikon Coolpix L5 features Nikon’s lens-shift VR (Vibration Reduction) optical image stabilization technology which helps steady long-range shots.

Nikon D2Xs digital camera review

Reviews.cnet has posted a review of the Nikon D2Xs digital camera.

Philip Ryan writes: Overall, the Nikon D2Xs is an amazing camera. It is an extremely responsive, powerful imaging tool meant to tackle even the most challenging photographic situations, and it lives up to the task. Though there are other cameras that can top it in certain areas, you’d be hard-pressed to find a camera that is as versatile as this one. True, Canon’s 8-megapixel EOS-1D Mark II N can shoot at up to 8.5fps, but it doesn’t have the option of bumping up to 12 megapixels.

Asia.cnet has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix P4 digital camera review. They write:  This 8-megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera is a nonwireless version of the Nikon Coolpix P3 With the exception of Wi-Fi capabilities, the two cameras are identical in design, image quality, performance, and features. For more information on this camera, please look at our review of the Coolpix P3.

Nikon Coolpix S9 digital camera Review

Pocket-lint has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix S9 digital camera.

Doug Harman writes: Perhaps not one for the more advanced user, problems with image detail and JPEG artefacts frustrate an otherwise nice camera. Nikon’s Coolpix S9 is undoubtedly a stylish and easy to use (once you’ve mastered a couple of the small control issues) little camera that makes for a neat little snapper at a good price.

Nikon Coolpix L5 Digital Camera Review

Digitalcamerareview has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix L5 Digital Camera.

J.Keenan writes: The Nikon Coolpix L5 is a light compact camera with a bundle of nice features that offers novice shooters a quick and easy way to shoot digital photos under a wide variety of conditions with relative ease, as well as do some simple processing and image correction in-camera. The camera would benefit from an in-camera adjustment to sharpen the images somewhat.

PROS

  • Compact size/light weight
  • 7 megapixel sensor
  • Optical image stabilization
  • 5X optical zoom
  • D-Lighting photo correction tool
  • In-camera red-eye correction

CONS

  • Images could be sharper out of camera
  • Battery life marginal with alkalines
  • Red colors slightly shifted toward orange
  • Barrel distortion at wide end of telephoto can impact images

Nikon Coolpix L3 review

Asia.cent has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix L3 digital camera review.

Will Greenwald writes: Images from the Coolpix L3 generally came out sharp but were hindered by some annoying qualities. For example, we noticed vignetting–the darkening of corners of the image–in our test shots, and high-contrast edges developed a slight purple fringe. Despite these image problems, details were rendered crisply, and colors were reproduced accurately, if slightly cool.

Nikon D40 digital camera review

Dcresource has posted a review of the Nikon D40 digital camera.

Jeff Keller writes: What I liked:

  • Excellent photo quality; vivid colors and very low noise — though see issues below
  • Well built for its price
  • Robust performance
  • Large, bright, and sharp 2.5″ LCD
  • Shooting data well presented on the main LCD; settings can quickly be changed from the info screens
  • Full manual controls
  • Customizable menus and button
  • Useful features for beginners like D-Lighting, redeye removal, assist images, help system
  • AF-assist lamp
  • Redeye not a problem
  • Above average battery life
  • USB 2.0 High Speed support

What I didn’t care for:

  • Purple fringing with kit lens; occasional blown highlights
  • Limited selection of AF-S lenses means that many Nikkor lenses (mostly primes) will not support autofocus
  • Grip could be larger
  • No depth-of-field preview
  • Included software doesn’t allow for RAW image manipulation; Capture NX costs $150 more
  • Would’ve been nice for assist images to be in full menu as well as quick menu

Jeff Keller writes: What I liked:

  • Decent photo quality (but see issues below)
  • 5X zoom lens in a fairly compact body
  • Optical image stabilization
  • Large 2.5″ LCD
  • Powerful flash
  • Redeye not a problem
  • Tons of scene modes; in-camera help system
  • Handy D-Lighting and Best Shot Selector features

What I didn’t care for:

  • Soft photos with fuzzy details
  • Since ISO is automatic, photos can be noisier than desired
  • No manual controls (save for white balance)
  • Audio/video sync problem in movie mode
  • No AF-assist lamp; poor low light focusing
  • Low resolution LCD
  • No optical viewfinder
  • Exposure info not available in playback mode
  • Tiny amount of built-in memory
  • Plastic tripod mount
  • No USB 2.0 High Speed support
