I used the standard 18-55mm kit zoom for this test and performance is very good, but because the camera has the KAF2 lens mount, it can accept almost any Pentax lens so it has a huge potential audience.
Pentax has pulled out all the stops with the K10D and provides scope to grow with your photography. It’s robust, utilises anti-shake and offers good value for money.

The Pentax is cheaper, smaller, takes slightly better pictures, and looks more like a normal compact than the Olympus, but lacks the shock-proof credentials.

After all that, the Pentax K100D’s in-camera Shake Reduction is a welcome bonus in this surprisingly low-priced camera. Perhaps the best news is that it works better than most other in-body anti-shake
systems on the market. Despite its shortcomings, the Pentax K100D offers more bang for the buck than competing systems in this range, and the money you save on the kit leaves room to pick up an accessory flash to make indoor photography a dream. Overall, the K100D is Pentax’s strongest offering to date

Dan Havlik writes: The Pentax A10 was also one of the slowest compact models I’ve tried in recent months. For starters, while images looked great on the camera’s high-resolution LCD, scrolling through them on the screen is a very slow process that I found so frustrating I quickly sought out the 9-frame playback setting so I could speed through shots quicker. The slow scroll speed, unfortunately, carries over to almost all aspects of the camera. In our speed tests, the Pentax A10 fared poorly overall
with a slow start-up speed, noticeable shutter lag even when pre-focusing, and abysmal shot-to-shot speed even when the camera was in Continuous mode.
