Ricoh Caplio 500G Wide digital camera Review

Pocket-lint has posted a review of the Ricoh Caplio 500G Wide digital camera. They write: The Ricoh Caplio 500G Wide provides a tough package in terms of build, ease of use and versatility. Image quality is good thanks to a nice lens, fast, accurate focusing and good metering with the caveat on image noise at higher sensitivities.

The optical viewfinder leaves a bit to be desired as does the overall clunky look of the camera, but when you bear in mind this camera is more tool than tasty-looking technology.

However its £400 price tag makes it seem expensive compared to some of the similarly equipped but non-ruggedised competiton on the market.

Ricoh Caplio RR730 digital camera review

Thinkcamera has posted a review of the Ricoh Caplio RR730 digital camera.

Jonathan Ryan writes: Like the RR660 this really isn’t a bad camera. Yes image quality could be better, yes battery life could be longer. But if what you really want is a cheap camera to shoot snaps on then it’s probably one of the best value cameras you will see. It’s also a great camera for somebody who struggles with all the modes and buttons on some of the other “entry level” cameras. It’s simple enough that you can take it ff automatic mode and start taking control without it getting confusing.
If you want something that will produce the odd picture you can hang on your wall then consider spending a little more

Ricoh Caplio R4 digital camera Review

Pocket-lint has posted a review of the Ricoh Caplio R4 digital camera.

Doug Harman writes: The Ricoh Caplio R4 houses a class leading lens with a sophisticated feature set that not only works but works very well indeed. Despite a couple of niggles the benefits easily outweigh them. True versatility, excellent optics and a wide range of shooting/image capture controls at a reasonable price should ensure that the R4 is very near the top of your list if you’re thinking of
buying a digital compact any time soon.

I really enjoyed using the Ricoh Caplio R4, having a long zoom range like this in such a tiny camera is a lot of fun, especially as it is equivalent to 28mm at the wide end. The price you pay is in the maximum aperture of the lens being only f/3.3-4.8, although in my opinion it is a price worth paying. Also the CCD shift vibration correction is very effective, with good technique long exposures are possible handheld.

Ricoh GR Digital Review

Digicam Review has posted a review of the Ricoh GR Digital Camera. They had the following to say about the camera:

The Ricoh GR Digital is a unique digital camera, offering excellent image quality for people who want a wide angle, or ultra-wide-angle lens with a compact body. The easy to use camera offers speedy performance, good battery life, and a good camera body with very good controls. The high ISO settings may come in handy on occasion, at the cost of image quality. This camera is difficult to recommend due to poor value for money and it’s lack of optical zoom. However, if image quality is a priority and you’ve been looking for a rugged wide-angle compact digital camera, with the option of a very high quality optical viewfinder, and optional ultra-wide angle convertor, then this could be the camera for you! Ricoh are once again to be commended for daring to offer a unique digital camera in a crowded market.

Ricoh Caplio RR530 Review

DigiCam Review has just reviewed the Ricoh Caplio RR530. They gave it an ‘average’ rating.

Caplio RR530

From the review:

The Ricoh Caplio RR530 is a compact 5 megapixel digital camera and is good in regards to value for money and features, however, the average movie mode, poor low-light focusing, and average speed mean that this camera is fairly average, and difficult to recommend. Good results can be obtained when taking photos outside set to ISO50, and when the camera manages to focus indoors, but noise is quite high, and shutter lag and slow focusing defintiely hinder usefulness. Much better results can be acheived by spending a little bit more money on a better camera (for example the Nikon Coolpix 5600), or a similar amount of money on a lower megapixel camera (for example the 4 megapixel Pentax Optio S40/S45).

It seems quite good for the price but there are better cameras out there that are more inexpensive. The reviewer suggests considering the Olympus FE-110 / X705, Nikon Coolpix 5600 or the Pentax Optio S40/S45.
