Samsung Digimax L50 Review
Imaging Resource has posted a review of the Samsung Digimax L50 Digital Camera. They write: “The Samsung Digimax L50’s good looks and small size make it a welcome companion, and its big 2.5-inch color LCD monitor makes it an entertaining one, too. Though primarily designed for the point-and-shoot consumer interested
in both style and portability, the L50 has some useful audio and video features as well. The 5.0-megapixel CCD captures high resolution images usable up to 11×14 inches, but they’re really sharp only to 8×10. The L50’s 2.8x optical zoom lens covers the most common shooting uses. We did have a few quibbles with it, mainly its enigmatic menuing system. It was a little slow focusing on kids indoors and out, unfortunately, and its low light and flash performance were weak. Though chroma noise and detail held together
at high ISO, color washed out noticeably, making for a sickly look in photos of people. Still, we enjoyed shooting with the Samsung L50. It’s not a Dave’s Pick, but it is an impressive showing by Samsung in the subcompact arena.” [ Read ]
The camera loses points because it has a confusing menu system and the images that it takes are not very sharp. Other cons include a weak flash, no Mac support, prone to red-eye effect.

Samsung Digimax GX-1L Review
DigitalCameraInfo has posted another First Impressions review and this time they are reviewing the Samsung Digimax GX-1L.
From the review:
We think the GX-1L is a respectable entry level option. We say that mainly because it seems to be a Pentax, which is a good thing for a few reasons. First, it shares Pentax’s durable construction, simple interface and other positive qualities. Second, it shares the Pentax lens mount, so it’s compatible with a large selection of Pentax system lenses and accessories. Third, Pentax has sent other emphatic signals that they are in the digital camera business for the long haul—and whether or not Samsung produces more DSLRs won’t really matter to the GX-1L owner, because Pentax will prove an upgrade path of fully compatible equipment

Press Release:
With the digital age, Samsung has become one of the major camera manufacturers in record time. The Digimax camera range has gained popularity all over the world thanks to a remarkable value for money ratio. With the new flagship, the Pro815, Samsung also displays a capacity of high-class camera manufacturing, assisted by their renowned lens manufacturing partner, Schneider-Kreuznach of Germany.
Amsterdam, 6. February 2006 - DIWA (Digital Imaging Websites Association), a world-wide organisation of collaborating websites within digital imaging, today has the pleasure of announcing a DIWA Gold Award to the 8 Megapixel Samsung Pro815 digital megazoom camera.
Built around a fast 15x Schneider-Kreuznach Varioplan zoom lens, equivalent to 28-420mm f/2.2-4.6, with an amazing 3 cm super macro performance, the Pro815 holds the world record in terms of zoom power in a digital camera. It is also the first camera in the world with three LCD viewfinder solutions. The camera back is dominated by a gigantic 3.5″ LCD-screen, supported by an electronic viewfinder, both with a resolution of 235K for detailed image rendering. To accomodate high or low shooting positions, a third 1.44″ LCD display is located on top of the camera, doubling as an information panel. User friendliness is further enhanced by implementing grid lines for easy composition, live histogram, conventional zoom- and focus rings on the lens barrel, and a sofisticated hybrid AF system with nine focusing points and a powerful AF assisting lamp.
The Pro815 is loaded with numerous exciting, useful and unusual features, such as DNG RAW as well as uncompressed TIFF and three JPEG compressed file formats, 12 images continuous shooting with 2.5 fps or super-fast 1.3 MP bursts with 10 fps, interval timer, built in flash and hot-shoe for external flash units, stereo sound recording to still images or VGA movies, 11 Scene modes in addition to three programmable “MySet” storages for personal priorities, a High-Speed mode to reduce movement blur, and a complete range of automatic and manual camera settings.
Kai Thon, DIWA’s test manager comments: “The technical specifications alone prove that Samsung aims high with its Pro815. However, in today’s marketplace, a camera must also deliver in real life. A number of DIWA experts have tested the Pro815 to its limits and they all reported much higher scores than expected. Not only does the Pro815 handle well, it also performs like a professional camera, much thanks to its astonishing Schneider-Kreuznach 15x zoom lens and Samsung’s much improved image processor.”
Breathtaking technical data, a multitude of unique construction details, ingenious design features and professional-like image quality places the Pro815 on the top shelf. But, it has two more goodies at hand; its rechargeable battery pack with 1900 mAh capacity at 7.4V is more powerful than any other comparable battery, another world record - and finally, no other camera in its class can offer the same value for money. All these fine advantages, plus pure camera performance in our rigid testing program made the Samsung Pro815 more than qualified for a DIWA Gold Award.

first 8 megapixel camera phone
Now cellphones have more megapixels than my digital camera
I need to get a newer camera!
Today Samsung Electronics unveiled the world’s first 8.0 megapixel camera phone, the WCDMA SPH-V8200. Ki-Tae Lee, President of Samsung’s Telecommunications Network was the first to demonstrate the Samsung SPH-8200 model on Thursday.

We do know it looks nothing like it’s 7.0 megapixel brother, the SCH-V770, and very much like the SGH-i300 3GB multimedia smartphone being held up by Ki-Tae Lee at the press conference earlier today.
Samsung & Pentax To Enter SLR Camera Market
David Richards of Smarthouse.com reports that Samsung is partnering with Pentax in order to enter the digital SLR Market.
Samsung is the third electronics company to partner with a camera firm to break into the hot-selling d-SLR category. Panasonic and Olympus announced a partnership last year, followed by Sony and Konica Minolta this year. “The SLR is the only place you can make money” in the digital camera market, said Chris Chute, senior analyst, IDC. Given Canon and Nikon’s dominance of the global SLR market (58 percent and 30 percent, respectively), smaller firms have to band together to survive, Chute added
